Mykola Tomenko: Actions of the Public and Local Authorities endanger the Democratic Elections in Ukraine
"The analysis of the first days of ‘fair´ elections in Ukraine stirs alarm," Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated at the today´s briefing in the Parliament.
M.Tomenko is surprised at this fact, "as today in Brussels, the President of Ukraine will assure the leaders of the European institutions that Ukraine follows the European way, the freedom of speech is not violated and the elections are transparent." However, the analysis of the first two days of the ‘fair´ elections shows a great number of malfeasances and abuse of administrative power.
The Deputy Chairman mentioned the resolution of Pechersk District Court that accepted the statement of claim on 8 September, instituted the proceedings on the same day and immediately passed the resolution prohibiting Kyiv regional organization of Batkivshchyna party to stand in elections and permitting the people expelled from the party to use the "BYuT-Batkivshchyna" party brand.
"The members of the commissions who have nothing to do with the Batkivshchyna party, but are nominated by the local authorities are being registered in Kyiv region," the Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed.
M.Tomenko remarked that the authorities in Cherkasy "have invented a more effective way to liquidate the opposition: they intend to detain Anatolii Bondarenko, head of the regional office of the Batkivshchyna party, during the submission of election lists."
The Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine announced that the Deputies of The Verkhovna Rada had been notified of the pressure exerted on the heads of public and municipal enterprises and school principals who are not ready to guarantee the ‘right´ results of elections in favour of the Party of Regions in their towns, townships and villages.
Mykola Tomenko declared that all the abusive acts would be reported to the General Prosecution, and international organizations. The Verkhovna Rada will also consider them at the plenary meeting.
